Mission Statement
To share God’s love and help people to become like Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Vision Statement
We envision a Church where people learn, grow, share and work together to demonstrate God’s heart for the world.
Statement Of Faith
WE BELIEVE IN THE GREAT DOCTRINES OF THE HOLY SCRIPTURES AND OF THE BIBLICAL CHRISTIAN FAITH.
I. BIBLE
We
believe that
the Holy
Scriptures (66) books, consisting of the Old (39 books) and
New
Testament (27 books), are verbally inspired and without error in
their
original writings.
We believe that
the writers
of the Bible wrote them under the inspiration and
guidance of
the Holy Spirit.
We
believe that
the Bible is
the revealed and inerrant word of God and are therefore
our final
authority in matters of faith and conduct.
II. GOD
We
believe
in one God,
who exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the
Son, and the
Holy Spirit.
We
believe
not only the
complete oneness of God, but also the equally complete
distinctiveness of the three persons who make up the
Godhead.
We
believe
in God's
natural attributes; that He is eternal, unchanging,
omnipotent,
omnipresent, and omniscient.
We
believe
in God's
moral qualities; that He is holy, righteous, merciful,
faithful,
and loving.
We believe
that God
created the heavens and the earth and everything in it;
that He
created a host of spiritual and sinless beings called
angels. Some
of them fell into sin and under the leadership of Satan
who now
oppose God and His children; the rest retained their sinless
status and
are ministering as servants of God.
III. JESUS CHRIST
We
believe
that Jesus
Christ who God from eternity, was sent by the Father,
begotten by
the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary and thus, is
completely
God and completely man.
We
also
believe that
Jesus died on the cross for the sins of mankind and
that He rose
bodily from the grave, to provide the only means by
which sinful
men can be reconciled with God.
We
further
believe in
Christ's present work for believers as High Priest and
Advocate in
Heaven, and in the "blessed hope" of His second coming
(personal
and bodily return) to receive believers unto Himself and
establish
His millennial kingdom on earth.
IV. HOLY SPIRIT
We
believe
that the
Holy Spirit is God who indwells all true believers and
accomplish
regeneration in the life of those believing in
Christ.
We believe that the Holy Spirit convicts men of sin, sanctifies (positional) the believers, and empowers them to overcome the present power of sin, and to witness for Christ.
We
further
believe that
the Holy Spirit leads a sinner to repentance and
acceptance
of Christ as personal Lord and Savior to the praise of
the
Father.
V. MAN
We
believe
that God
created Adam as a sinless being, but because of the
latter's
transgression, he fell from his original innocence.
Consequently, the descendants of Adam are born in sin and are
subject to
death and judgment, apart from God's grace.
We
believe
that all
mankind sinned and fall short of the glory of God; hence,
condemned to
an eternal existence separate from God.
VI. SALVATION
We
believe
that men can
be saved from sin and come into possession of eternal
life by
realizing their need for repentance and by believing in
Jesus Christ
as personal Savior and sin-bearer. Salvation is by
grace alone
through Christ alone and is entirely a free gift of God.
Man's only
hope of salvation is through personal faith in Christ and
cannot
possibly be achieved by good works.
We
believe
that God's
act of redemption in human history is vicarious and
complete.
Consequently, salvation is God's work alone from beginning
to
end.
VII. THE CHURCH
We
believe
in the
spiritual unity of all believers and that all true believers
are members
of the church (universal and invisible), which is
Christ's
body and of which He is the head.
We
also
believe in
the local church which is the visible fellowship of
redeemed men
who meet for regular worship, mutual edification, and
for the
celebration of the Lord's Supper and Water Baptism.
We
further
believe that
the universal invisible church is the institution
commissioned
by the Lord Jesus Christ for mission (to preach the
gospel of
Christ and make disciples of all nations) and that all
Christians
are called and commissioned by the Lord to live to the
glory of God
and to win others to Christ.
VIII. CULTURAL REDEMPTION AND CONTEXTUALIZATION
We
believe
in the
biblical concept of culture: That all true culture has God as
its Prime
Author and Sovereign Lord.
We
also
believe that
all culture, like everything else in the contemporary
world, has
been tainted with human sinfulness. Hence, all art, all
music, all
poetry, all science, all philosophy, and even all
theology
displays the disfiguring marks of sin to a greater or
lesser
extent.
We
further
believe that
all creation (rational or irrational, animate or
inanimate)
groan and eagerly await redemption. It therefore becomes
the
Christians calling and responsibility to redeem for God
humankind
(through evangelism and witnessing) and his culture
(through
research, filtration and consecration).
Lastly, we
believe that
all cultures can adequately serve as tools for godly
worship and
as vehicles for the communication of the Gospel. All
cultures,
therefore, must be filtered, consecrated, and offered back
at the feet
of Jesus Christ, to be used only for His
glory.
Day By Day History
Day by Day - from Saudi Arabia to the Philippines (1985 to 1995)
Day By Day Christian Ministries as it is known today started out as a small
clandestine
Christian fellowship dedicated to Bible studies in June 1985 at the King
Khaled Eye
Specialist Hospital compound in one country in West Asia. Pastor-to-be Eduardo
Mercado Lapiz led
this fellowship and Sis. Amy Gibson hosted it.
On 15 August 1985, the group transferred to
Bro. Vic and Sis.
Betty Cruz' villa in city's downtown. Thereafter, non-KKESH people
including
elders-to-be Gali Afurong, Lito Vito, and Bernard Valerio started to attend.
Thereafter, Bro
Richard and Sis Malou Sipin, together with many others soon joined.
Shortly, the
fellowship was fondly called the "Wednesday Group" because
Bible studies and
fellowships were done on Wednesday nights, the beginning of this West Asian country's weekend. The pioneer members
recognize this meeting on 15 August 1985 as the
official foundation
day of Day By Day.
Special discipleship classes,
leadership training
and outreach Bible studies were held to respond to the needs of a
growing church. The
need to teach church history became pronounced. Thus, Sunday night
classes on the
subject were held at the Sipin's residence. When the Cruzes returned to
Manila, the Sipin's
became the host of the "Wednesday Group." Notably, the first
worship service was
held in 1986 at Bro Tony Tejada and Hermie Manabo's residence.
In 1987, Pastor Ed, with some church leaders
including Bro Dexter
Andres, discussed his vision of incorporating the fellowship as an
evangelical
congregation in the Philippines. It was designed to continue ministering to
the members even
when they returned to the country. The idea was warmly received, first by
this small group,
and then by the whole fellowship. A name for the church had to be
chosen. Pastor Ed
suggested "Day By Day" for its meaning, repetitive poetic
sound, strong
consonants, and impact. Among the suggestions, "Day By Day" was
chosen to replace
the unofficial but descriptive name "Wednesday Group."
Meanwhile, Home Bible Study Groups in the
Philippines were
organized among the families of some West Asian congregation members. These groups also
began to grow. By
1987, Day By Day had seven full-blown congregations all over the city,
subdivided into 35
Bible Study and Care Groups.
When the Sipins returned to Manila in the
same year, Day By
Day was hosted by Sis. Mary Budonio in her villa. The fellowship
remained there until
the middle of 1988. Then, DBD acquired its own villa in a quiet
district in that
country.
In 1988, Pastor Cesar Pasinio, leader of the
"Word of Life" (a
DBD local church in West Asia) returned to the Philippines and
organized Day By Day
Nasipit, in Nasipit, Agusan Del Norte, making it the first DBD local
church in the
country.
The church had its share of persecutions. With tips of impending arrest and
imprisonment for the
religious work, Pastor Ed left West Asia in April 1989 and returned to
the Philippines.
Immediately, he organized the DBD Center and congregation in McDoughton,
Quezon City. Later,
the Center transferred to 1369 Leon Guinto, Malate, Manila where it
held office for six
years from 1989 to 1995. Thus, what started as an underground
Christian Fellowship
in West Asia, DBD despite (or because of) persecutions, grew
strong by God's
grace and incorporated in the Philippines as a non-sectarian,
non-denominational
Christian congregation in October 15, 1987 under SEC Certificate of
Registration No.
145310.
Today, Day By Day oversees the national and international congregations. It holds
its main office, Day
By Day Center-1 at 4522 Calhoun Street, Pio del Pilar, Makati City.
Day By Day Center-2
is in Greenbelt Theater building. It has active mission churches in
Baguio City,
Muntinlupa, Bataan, Nasipit (Agusan del Norte), Zamboanga City, New Jersey-
USA, Japan, and in
the Middle East.
Day by Day - in New Jersey, USA (1998 to present)
Day by Day Christian Ministries of New Jersey, just like its mother church started as a small bible
study. Led by Bro. Rex Banguilan, a missionary of DBD Manila, the group conducted its first bible study on August
22, 1997. The session was held at Bro. Rex and Sis. Thelma's household at 48 Terhune Ave, Jersey City, NJ and was
participated in by Bro. Mike Faustino, Bro. Mario Videna and Sis. Aurora Santillan. Thereafter, the group started to
meet regularly on Thursdays. the group would then welcome Sis. Florita Laguador and the soon to be married Bro. Roy
Abjelina and Sis. Lourdes Gubatina. In the succeeding months, other Filipino consultants who just arrived in New
Jersey joined the studies.
On September 1998, Pastor Ed Lapiz came to New Jersey and conducted a retreat for the group at
Streamside Camp and Conference Center in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
To better cater to the needs of the growing group, Bro. Rex asked Pastor Cesar, former head pastor of
Day by Day Nasipit and bible study leader in Manhattan to lead the evangelistic lessons being conducted for the new
comers. In October of 1998, Pastor Cesar became a regular fixture of the fellowship. When the group became too
large for Bro. Rex's house, Sis. Flordeliz Herrera hosted the bible studies.
On November 1999, the bible study group was finally incorporated as a church-controlled non-profit
organization. Aptly named Day by Day Christian Ministries International, the church held its first Sunday worship
on February 6, 2000 at 38 Kellogg St., Jersey City, NJ.
As of August 2001, DBD-NJ holds a regular Worship Service, bible study classes and prayer
meetings.
What's in the Name?
Day By Day
was chosen as our name for several
reasons, the most
important of which is its meaning. The words "Day by
Day" entail what we
believe in and what we aim to accomplish. That is, as
we are fed by the
Word of God and as we allow ourselves to be disciples of Christ, we
renew our faith with
God and we are changed through God's grace from glory to glory day
by
day.
Aside from its
significant meaning, "Day by Day"
has also a
repetitive poetic sound and strong consonants which make an impact enough
for it to be easily
remembered.
What does
symbolize?
The Day by Day
logo is an image of both fire
and dove (head facing down) representing God the Holy Spirit.
