What would you think instantly when you read the following heading of an article published in the internet like this: “Empty supermarkets, closed cities and rising mortality: Coronavirus triggers panic in Italy?”
If it happened in Italy, most probably it can happen anywhere in the whole world. Even the World Health Organization has already warned countries to prepare for possible coronavirus pandemic. What came up to my mind was the tenth plague that inflicted Egypt because of their unbelief of the True Living God our Almighty Creator. God called Moses to tell the Israelites what to do in order to be spared from this last plague which was the killing of all firstborn Egyptian sons. They have to kill a lamb and wipe its blood on the doorposts and the beam above the door of their respective houses so that when the Angel of Death comes and see the blood He will skip their house. Only the Egyptian sons will be put to death to let them know that the God of Israel is the Lord and no other else. Having been said in the Book of Hebrews that what was written in the Old Testament was the shadow of what will happen in the future, therefore this coronavirus which is now called COVID-19 can be God’s clarion call to all those who deny that there is only one God. All other gods are just mere idols which are lifeless taught by mere men.
One has to genuinely believe and accept Jesus Christ as the Lamb of God who shed His Blood on the cross for our salvation with God’s promise that by doing so, we will be marked by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in us (Ephesian 1:13-14) who will become our Helper and our Shield against all kinds of Satan’s flaming arrows including the COVID-19 in accordance to God’s perfect will.
Man’s helplessness against this kind of killer virus is OUR GREAT OPPORTUNITY to show to the whole world the big difference because we have the True Living God, the God of Israel, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The God who divided the Red Sea, fed the five thousand men not counting yet the women and children with five loaves of bread and two pieces of fish, raised the dead, healed the sick, and etc. Truly, if God is for us who can be against us (Romans 8:31)?
Today is OUR GREAT OPPORTUNITY to tell everyone about the Good News that Jesus came to save sinners for He did not come for the righteous because nobody is righteous in His sight for all have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory (Roman 3:10,23).
Can’t we see the good thing in this unseen monstrous COVID-19 as a great blessing to this lost world? If fear of COVID-19 can draw us back to God and worship Him as God, isn’t that Good News? If fear of COVID-19 can make man a better person whose broken image will be restored into God’s image, isn’t that a great blessing to treasure for eternity? The Word of God said, “What will profit a man if he owns the whole world but loses his soul” (Mark 8:36)?
