Character Will Count in Eternity
My heart is always open to whatever impression the Holy Spirit leads that is congruent to the message that I’m going to deliver in the pulpit. Last Sunday, I told the Congregation that the message I was going to talk about was one of the most important messages that I’ve ever prepared. It’s about character which will count in eternity.

The wings of my imagination brought me back to the Garden of Eden to see the cause of Adam’s downfall to suffer the terrible consequence of disobedience. It was in that garden which was perfect in beauty that showed us how loving others more than God can horribly destroy us. It was Adam’s love for Eve that led him to disobey God. It was his love for Eve more than God that Satan found access to tempt him with his cunning ways. When you allow misplaced love to control you, it can be Satan’s most effective way to separate you from God, your Maker. It ran through all generations that have passed and will continue to manifest in our time until the end, if we are not careful who we put as number one in our life. Today countless misplaced love has derailed man’s journey into self-destruction instead of satisfying the true longings of his heart. It has been proven since time immemorial that there is no amount of success that can ease an anxious heart apart from God.

Now, I understand that the redemptive work of our Savior on the Cross is not only to redeem us from the hands of our Unseen Destroyer as the only way to escape hell but to redeem us as well from Adam’s mistake so as not to be repeated until God will bring us back into His glorious kingdom. God’s command in the Scripture to love Him with all our heart, with all our strength and with all our soul is understandably and practically for our own protection to insulate us from the flaming arrows of Satan and his demons. It is the Greatest Commandment that comes with a promise if we seek first His kingdom and His righteousness then all other else will be added unto us (Matt. 6:33) to fully satisfy our searching heart.

Let’s not fall into Adam’s mistake by putting someone above God, instead let’s be encouraged that whoever is the object of our love must be the source of our driving force to come closer to God. Jesus said, “Whenever you did it for any of My people, no matter how unimportant they seemed, you did it for Me” (Matthew 25:40).

Checking our character on how we treat those who have nothing to repay us back and our reaction when time and circumstance go against us will surely count in eternity. It’s the best index of a character that is worth living because of the lasting and glorious reward truly worth fighting for.
