When I first heard about the magnitude 6.1 earthquake that recently struck our beloved Motherland, the Philippines which was followed by another magnitude 6.4 and weaker ones in other parts of the country, I praised God right away that it was not the Big One which Phivolcs has been warning since 2015.
On the same day, my Bible reading was in Revelation Chapter 6. Starting verse 6 it says, “When I saw the Lamb open the sixth seal, I looked and saw a great earthquake. The sun turned as dark as sackcloth, and the moon became as red as blood. 13 The stars in the sky fell to earth, just like figs shaken loose by a windstorm. 14 Then the sky was rolled up like a scroll, and all mountains and islands were moved from their places. 15 The kings of the earth, its famous people, and its military leaders hid in caves or behind rocks on the mountains. They hid there together with the rich and the powerful and with all the slaves and free people. 16 Then they shouted to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us! Hide us from the one who sits on the throne and from the anger of the Lamb. 17 That terrible day has come! God and the Lamb will show their anger, and who can face it?”
At first, I just kept it in my heart while wondering how scary would it be when the remaining prophecies in the Scripture would occur. But Revelation 10:11 keeps on coming back to my mind to re-echo in our time God’s warning as His clarion call for everybody to seek and come closer to God who alone can spare us from all kinds of catastrophic events when they come. Being helpless when nature ragingly comes against us, it would be our great joy at all times to call upon the Most Holy Name of God as the Psalmist says in Psalms 46:1-3,6-7, “God is our mighty fortress, always ready to help in times of trouble. 2 And so, we won’t be afraid! Let the earth tremble and the mountains tumble into the deepest sea. 3 Let the ocean roar and foam, and its raging waves shake the mountains. 6 Nations rage! Kingdoms fall! But at the voice of God the earth itself melts. 7 The LORD All-Powerful is with us. The God of Jacob is our fortress.”
Rev. 10:11, “Then some voices said, ‘Keep on telling what will happen to the people of many nations, races, and languages, and also to kings.’”
