Overcoming Temptation Jesus' Way
Let me conclude today the story of Jesus which I shared to you last week. After His water baptism, He was led by the Holy Spirit to be tempted by Satan in the wilderness. It’s a stern warning for all the believers to be watchful and more prayerful in times of abundance or success so that we won’t fall into a state of vulnerability. Satan will come like an anger of light to tempt us and for God to test our loyalty to Him. Jesus showed us how to overcome the wiles of Satan with his flaming arrows that can dreadfully consume us when we succumb to the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life, the sin that God hates the most. It is the sin that made Lucifer (perfect in beauty) turn into Satan (the destroyer).

How are we going to respond to these temptations? There is only one way how to come out victorious. It is the same way Jesus responded to Satan. Jesus took the Word of God and rebuked him. Likewise, it is important for us to keep His Word in our heart to shield us from whatever subtle and fiery attack of the destroyer of our body and soul. It’s the only way we can resist Satan and drive him away then surely God will crown us with what can truly satisfy us after passing the test.

Matt. 4:11; Heb. 4:12, “Then the devil left Him and angels came and attended Him. . . For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart”
