Christmas Season is the Best Time for Self Inventory
“Joy to the world the Lord is come! Let earth receive her king . . . ” This is one reason that makes December the most awaited month for all the believers. It is reminiscence of that long most awaited fulfillment of the coming Messiah when an angel appeared to the shepherds bringing the Good News to all men saying, “Do not be afraid. I bring you Good News of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you, He is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:10-11). It is of great joy because the Promised Messiah has already come to rescue us from the coming wrath (1Thessalonians 1:10b). It is of great joy because of its assurance that God is indeed watching His Word to be fulfilled (Jeremiah 1:12b) which is now God’s great challenge to all professing Christians to remain steadfast in their faith that they received in their first personal encounter of our Savior.

Month of December therefore is not only the time of rejoicing because of the revelation of God’s Saving Grace through His Son Jesus Christ but it is also the best time to pause from the “hustle and bustle” of this joyous season. The glitters and busyness of Christmas must not over shadow its true meaning and not cause us to lose sight of making an important inventory to check and assess our faith. The Apostle Paul said in 2Corinthians 13:5b, “Do you not realize that Christ is in you – unless, of course you fail the test?”

How’s the fire in your heart which lit first when you heard and knew how much God loves you by sending Jesus to pay your debt and die your death on that cross at Calvary? Is the flame still burning hot to continue God’s work until He returns or is it now flickering and getting snuffed out due to human agenda? If God remained faithful to the end even if it cost Him the life of His only Beloved Son, can we afford to let the “ningas-cogon” mentality leads us to the wrong direction and fail the test in the end? God forbid!
